Lonely Little Petunia in the Onion Patch

Do you remember Captain Kangaroo?? I watched him for years, I enjoyed the show as much as the kids did. One of the songs was about the petunia in the onion patch. The reason I bring this up is that I have a similar situation. This is a huge pot on my back steps and last year I had tomato plants and herbs in it. Since I was making a real live veggie garden this year I decided to put flowers in the pot. Mother Nature had different ideas, so now I have tomato plants growing in my flowers. Mind you , every tomato seed I planted in the garden has come up so I will inundated with tomatoes in a month or so. I also have two rows of lettuce, good thing I like salads.
I tried to get a better picture of Charlie, actually got him to stay still for a couple of seconds. He really is a good dog and tries so hard to please. Of course, it is like having a small child in the house, into everything. The current job is convincing him that he has toys that are good and getting into other stuff is not good. He is my shadow and he is also learning that he has to share my attention with Elvira and the cats. One big chore will be keeping him out of the road, we don't get a lot of traffic but sure would hate for him to be hurt. He is so fast, take your eyes off him for a sec and he is off!! He loves chasing things, birds, butterflies, bugs all good in his book. He does come when called, but not as quickly as I would like. He has only been here a little over a week, so he really is doing well.
The goats have been doing their job. When I first put them in new area you could not see them. Now a little over a week later they have done a great job of whittling down the weeds. Bet you can tell where they go next! Some where out there is one of the mowers, it conked out on me while I was trying to battle my way through. I think I found the problem. When ever something won't work I wiggle and tap and bang on stuff, amazingly enough it quite often brings the beast back to life. In this case I found a cracked hose which might be the cause of my being stranded in the midst of 4 foot high thistles. I was not happy. Later I will take my trusty duck tape out and see if wrapping the line will bring my pink mower back to life. Well, she is not really pink more of a faded orange, keeps my husband off her. He can use the more manly John Deere and I can have my comfy one.
The mini rose finally bloomed, Jim got it for me for Mother's Day but by the time he was able to bring it home the blooms were gone. He knows what makes me happy, forget the pricey elaborate bouquets, I want the real thing. I can enjoy my roses for years. Well, a multitude of tasks await or I may just take a nap.
Best to you all, Barbara

Oh Yes, I remember Captain Kangaroo and Mr Green Jeans too...

Sounds like the pup is claiming his place in the household. He looks like he has chocolate lab in him. Labs are such big cuddle bugs.

Looks like those goats have been busy. Are you sure they haven't been starting up your pink mower and getting the job done that way when you weren't looking.

Have a great week.

I DO remember Captain Kangaroo! My kids watched him all the time. Great little song!!! Your gardening sounds wonderful! Wish I could have a little one, but I would be afraid to harvest anything because we have so many snakes in the South here, due to the hot climate. I had a copperhead out back as the girl next door to me, her dog was bitten in the face by it. So I don't want any bushy plants out back at all. But I miss a garden.

Charlie sounds like quite the boy! He really IS a beautiful dog!!! I love a playful animal myself, but they are really too frisky and can dart in a split second out into the road. Labs are really great dogs! So smart and great with children, too!

Had to laugh over your "pink" mower! Good thing you have the goats to take over that job! We used to drink alot of goat milk when we were growing up...given to us by a man who raised them. Supposed to be better for you than cow's milk...I don't know about that, all I remember is that Mom made us drink at least a glass of it a day! LOL

Have a great week! I am hoping to post an update on the 2 sick kitties later tonight, so drop by tomorrow and "read all about it."

I do remember watching Captain Kangaroo. Wish there were more shows like that now for kids (and adults) to watch. How did your canning go? I penned all my goats up the other night for today will find us delivering goats to the kids who are showing for us and I also sold a couple of little nannies. Hope you and yours have a blessed day.

I can see you love roses as well, isn't it a wonderful sight when you go check your garden and see one blooming?!! I love my little faerie garden and this year decided to plant 5 rose bushes in it...wasn't sure how well they'd grow in there but I can now say they're doing fabulous:-)

Your dog is gorgeous, I've always loved Labs. I can see he's keeping you on your toes! lol

Hi Barbara,

My kids and I loved Captain Kangaroo as well! And the tomato plants in the pot are a bonus from Mother Nature. Speaking of tomatoes, mine are almost ready to eat. Cucumbers I have been enjoying already for over a week. I love veggies from the garden.

I'm so glad Charlie is doing so well. He is a happy doggie now, in his new home. Bless you for giving him a good, loving home.

Ah, the duck tape, a handy invention, isn't it? I use it for all kinds of quick repairs. And I would rather have a plant any day, too. One can enjoy it for years, instead of a week.

Speaking of enjoying, I enjoyed your post and pictures so much. Have a great week, dear Barbara.

Hugs and Blessings,

Renie

I love Charlie. He is lucky to have found you. How is he with the goats?
I love that wedding cake! Simply beautiful. You are a woman of many talents. Riding tractors and making wedding cakes. Amazing.
